Some Quick Photos of the Dining Room

Earlier today I took some photos of the dining area... Like everything else in this house, it's still in transition. I need to re-cover some chairs that I will be switching out, (not feeling the matchy-matchy chairs anymore), and updating some of the accessories... and still, because I like you all so much, I continue to share my discombobulated rooms!
I do have to admit that I especially love our black Modular Buffet from Pottery Barn. It was the one piece that we splurged on right after we got married. As you can tell, I use this to display my obsession with cake stands (they can be used for anything. Anything!) ...I also love our China Cabinet from Kirkland's Home. It fits our formal China perfectly!

Home Office Inspiration

Husband and I are lucky enough to have our own offices in this new house. Soo excited to get started on mine! I am planning on turning my office into a writing/project room. I found some inspiration photos on House Beautiful, which I love... I'll have limited resources as my office is not exactly a priority, what with painting the exterior, tearing down walls and building on a new laundry room. But still, I can't wait to get started on this room!

The New Buffet from Savers

A couple of months ago I purchased this dresser at Savers for $25...

Pretty ugly, right? But, looks can be deceiving and I needed a buffet for my dining area. I decided to paint the dresser a mustard yellow and I really love it! I was going to find new knobs, but spray painted the knobs black instead. Then I applied three coats of Polycrylic protective gloss.

Not too shabby. Here is what turned out... 

The Chair We Picked up on the Side of the Road

Yes, it's true... When husband and I were looking for houses with our Realtor, (otherwise known as Aunt Amy), we viewed a home that was truly disgusting. It looked okay from the outside, but this was grungy, torn down, nastiness at it's finest... However, the day wasn't a total loss, there was a chair sitting on the side of the road outside the house. So we took it. Well, husband got out the car and hurriedly put the chair in the back of my Aunt's truck and we drove around town with a smelly smoky chair. It was not pleasant, but we made it through the afternoon, and boy am I glad!

My initial plan was to reupholster the top ripped portion of the chair. I had the template and cardboard all cut out, but then it got packed away and I decided to spray paint anyway. I used some fabric that I had gotten on sale to recover the cushion, and to tell you the truth, I actually kind of like the little imperfections. It gives the chair character. Plus, it almost feels a little Anthropologie-ish. Almost. 
I had shown it in the master bedroom reveal, but here are some additional pictures... I will add a few more tomorrow.

Dinner

I know I have been doing more food posts lately, but I just love food! I make dinner every night so sometimes I just want to share the goodness! Seriously, I wouldn't mind being a chef (if it was my only job!).
Husband got some good news at work so I am making him an especially nice dinner. Beef loin and spicy yellow squash. Yum!

Living Room Reveal...

When I initially set out to decorate the living room, I thought I would be hitting up the Goodwill’s and Thrift Stores around town for a living room couch. Now... I know that the good sofas are far and few between, but I had hope.... Maybe I could re-upholster? I never had done such a big project, but there is a first time for everything… Then, I actually started looking around and there was nothing out there. All the couches were either flat, greasy and just plain scary. So… I resigned myself to living without living room furniture for a while… and as we all know, this is a very difficult task for any home aficionado.  

Well... I think someone was watching out for me, because low and behold, there at West Elm were the couches that I had dreamt about. And that is how my room came together!

Other than the sale cost of the couches, I spent $6.00 on the Goodwill side table and then recycled items. The room is still in transition. I need to add curtains, artwork and mirrors, but it is coming along. I painted the room a soft gray from Behr Ultra called Silver Drop and I love it! It changes colors in a beautiful way throughout the day.
