As luck would have it, the week after we moved in, our neighbors had a garage sale and there it was! The perfect dresser/vanity for our room for $20. In addition, our neighbor was so generous, she later left a little chair by my door that went with the dresser (more on that later)... Needless to say, I love, love, LOVE this neighborhood.
I chose not to strip the original wood finish. I wanted the desk to have more of an antique feel, so I just gave it a good sand and painted it white. I used Floetrol to reduce brush strokes and used two coats of paint. Here are some photos of the process... The area is by no means done, (I need a larger mirror and accessories for one), but I think it's off to a good start!
I took off the handles, used wood filler to patch the holes and then drilled new holes for the new silver knobs.
