Husband and I spent a few days there with our east coast family just a few weeks ago. I have to say, this was one of my most favorite visits! There is so much culture and history in Newport and the sites are endless.
We stayed a charming three story Bed & Breakfast that was walking distance to downtown and the mansions. We ate wonderful food, had amazing wine and enjoyed our time with family.
We did visit a few mansions and the design and décor were breathtaking. It’s hard to believe the luxury that these Gilded Age millionaires called home. We weren’t allowed to snap any photos in the actual mansions, but I did get some of the grounds. We toured The Breakers (where Love Story was filmed) and Rough Point, the home of the great beauty Doris Duke. The life and times of these individuals was astounding, and sometimes heartbreaking, but what a legacy! All I can say is thank you a million times over to my mother and father in law for a spectacular time.
Here's hubby and I. Excuse our messy hair. We'd been walking all day long!
We also made our way over to Portsmouth, the other side of the island and viewed some additional gardens. There was an estate sale next door and my mama in law and I were all over that! Husband bought some glass telephone wire insulators that he plans on making into lights for his office. How cool is that?!
