I planted a tree about fifteen months ago (peach trees are planted in January, when the weather is cool). I took my beautiful mama's advice and started cultivating the garden area before we even started our boxes and vegetables (those will go in this fall). At least get the peach trees in, she said. Boy, was she right!
As a child I grew up around gardens, planting and urban living. My parents knew that we needed to get back to our roots, and cultivated a sustainable lifestyle for my sisters and I. It wasn't until I got married and had my own home, that I realized the pleasure and satisfaction of growing your own garden. There are no pesticides, genetically modified organisms or any other fearful side effects when you grow your own food. It's about sustainable living and peace of mind.
So, last month, when it was time to harvest my first batch of peaches, I couldn't wait! "I'm going to pick the peaches!", I happily called out to Husband, who laughed at me. That is until he tasted those peaches. Yum! Seriously, the juiciest and best tasting peaches we had ever enjoyed.
So, when you are considering what to plant in your garden, think about trying some of these little gems. Just look what you can get!
