With the lack of blog updates lately, I realized that I hadn’t shared some of the photos I took at the last Arcadia Edible Garden Tour. We only got to see a few of the gardens before we had to head on over to the Sweet Life market and help out at the booth, but what we did see was amazing and inspiring! Things have been quietly busy this last month. We’ve been spending a lot of time in Grammy’s pool and working on keeping an active toddler inside with the 108 degree weather. This is no easy feat, when I am constantly reminded that we should visit that “Pooh”, or toddler translation, “Pool”. Growing tomatoes in raised beds is a great way to grow these highly-prized vegetables. The high soil temperature and access to plenty of sunlight make this the perfect environment for growing tomatoes.
When you plant your tomatoes, you can apply some of these homemade tomato fertilizer recipes to the soil. You can buy a ready-made tomato trellis or build one using wooden boards and a few hooks. If you are growing other vegetables in the same bed, install a support frame instead of a trellis. You will have easy access to the plants.
